May 25, 2015 - Sister Kennach

Hey y'all!
This week I got my new companion, Sister Kennach. She is from Southbend, Indiana. Her family loves loves loves football. Her dad's family is part Samoan. Her 2 favorite things to do are cook and clean, so she is a great companion. Her first day here she made fish with coconut milk, onion, and spinach. I was really suspicious, but it was real good. Pretty much, she is awesome and I love her! Oh, and she just barely had her first trim 3 weeks ago, her hair is mighty pretty.
This week we walked a lot, of course. We went up to one door, and there was a pitbull sitting on the porch. Something, heaven knows what, compelled Sister Kennach to put out her hand for the dog to sniff it. He barked and tried to attack her. It was pretty scary, and he tore up her bag real good, but Sister Kennach was unharmed. The owner came out and was shocked that Sister K would do that. She helped Sister Kennach calm down, and her heart was very softened, and we have an appointment tomorrow. She seems pretty elect to me, I guess Sister K getting to close to that dog was inspired!
Well, that is all from this Mississippi girl. Love y'all oodles and gobs!

My new companion, Sister Kennach!

Spam with noodles. Sister Madsen named them spoodles.

Sister Parr took us to the temple to meet the transfer van at 6 (as mom would say "dark o'clock").

Sister Ponce is the messiest eater ever. She gets something on her shirt, every meal, it never fails. Sister Hudson found her this cute bib, it actually helps a lot :)

With the Tudon family :)

Going to sign the wall at Graceland. Again. Mine started to fade so I thought, "Why not?"

May 18, 2015 - The Book of Mormon is amazing

Hey y'all!
First of all, I am training! I am very excited to meet this new sister. Of course, I am very sad for Sister Garcia to leave :( And Hermana Ponce will be training again! She didn't even finish training Hermana Hudson. This will only be Hermana Ponce's third transfer, but this will be her second trainee. I guess everyone needs her native Spanish skills.
This week, Sister Garcia got an ear infection from her hearing aid. That was a bummer. After a gabillion phone calls we got some ear drops figured out. One of the doctors on the phone asked, "Why am I talking to you instead of Sister Garcia?" I said, "Because she is deaf." "What? Why is she deaf?" "I don't know, she's been that way since she was 7." What a funny question, to ask, "why she is deaf?". When I told Sister Garcia that, she said, "I don't know, ask God. I have been wondering that myself." Her infection has been healing pretty good.
This week we taught our investigator Brother Bobbit. He is loving the Book of Mormon. He has read a ton and is already applying it to his life. This week we taught him the Plan of Salvation after he asked what happened to his brother who died without a belief in God. We read a lot in the Book of Mormon with him, and it was cool to see that it answered his questions of the soul. The Book of Mormon is amazing, I love it!
Hope y'all have a good week. Love you!

The Lowry's bird pinkie is quite the character. He is never quite unless he can cuddle with Brother Lowry.
This Mississippi weather has a little crazy. The weather was nice, it was all good, then Sister Garcia said a prayer before we got out of the car. When she looked up, she was very surprised to see it was raining cats and dogs! These sporadic downpours have been happening all weekend.

With some deaf members Jelena, Bryan, and Terry.

Visiting some other members, the Flemings.

Crystal and Allen's cute kids, Max and Mazie

Our district.

The Foote family. We had really yummy pizza with them this week. They are super awesome and are learning ASL and their baby Oliver is just the cutest!

May 11, 2015 - Mother's Day

Hey y'all!
So yesterday was a pretty good Mother's Day, it was great to see my family. And it was great for my family to see my cute companion Sister Garcia and of course Bronzie and Armando. Also yesterday Nautica and Torenzo came to church. They are already good friends with the young men and young women. They are very comfortable and just glow when they enter the church.
This week we met a super awesome deaf man! We were calling numbers on Sister Garcia's video phone and met him. We had a good chat about his religious background and our Sunday services, and now we have an appointment with him tomorrow night. It was super crazy that we found him, we are excited to teach him!
That is honestly about it. This week I worked really hard at being really motivated and really happy, so it was good. President Wakolo at our zone meeting this week had talked about becoming not only a missionary, but a true disciple of Christ. That is a very good goal, so I am trying my best! I love you and hope you have a good week!

Some tres leches the Hermanas brought home (don't worry, I didn't eat all of this).

Making s'mores and eating yummy pineapple coconut cashew rice with the Arringtons.

I just love Hermana Hudson!

Shrimp cocktails for lunch. All of my pics are of food this week, IDK why!

Enjoying some scenic llamas.

May 4, 2015 - Hello hello!

Hello hello!
The deaf work here is going slow but steady. As for Mario, he's an interesting character. We'll see what happens with him. Saturday, we went to a deaf event and met an awesome deaf couple that recently moved here. They are super sweet! The husband is from LA and has totally met Sister Garcia before, they just can't figure out where. But he knows Mormons and really respects them, and I met one of his deaf friends at BYU. We are super excited for them to meet the deaf members and we hopefully will start teaching them.
Sunday was great, one of our deaf members Allen came, he hadn't come for a while. He walked in during the hymn and all the deaf started crying. After church, Bryan, a deaf member who is coming back to church, got a blessing for strength to overcome his word of wisdom problems. I interpreted it for him, and it was so powerful. He is doing great and working towards the temple.
As for hearing investigators, we are teaching a SUPER ELECT man named Brother Bobbit. Last week, Heavenly Father made our day a complete wreck, but it was all so we would be in the right place to meet him. He loves the Book of Mormon and read 5 chapters by our second visit. That never happens, we were shocked! He is very humble and just ready for the Gospel. God is good.
Love y'all!

This is a real good rule.

Sister Hudson tried sushi her first time today. She was going to eat a big spoonful of wasabi. Don't worry, we stopped her.

Our BFF Shaquita. She said we could only take pictures if she posed good.

Welcome to the South.

This cute member cut our hair today!
