February 25, 2015 - Drive Thru Prayer Service

Hey y'all!
Well, the weather was crazy all week. Ice, snow, more ice, then it rained forever. It got in the way of many of our good plans, including ASL class and a deaf event. But, despite of all that, we had a pretty interesting week.
Wednesday we met the nicest woman on the planet. She let us right in, saw that Sister Garcia had flats instead of boots, and then proceeded to have her try on all the boots in her closet! They all had heels, so she ended up giving her some tights. Then she told us all about her church's "drive thru prayer service." People drive up to the parking lot, they tell them what to pray for, and then are guaranteed their request will be granted. The South is an interesting place my friends. She said come back and she'll make us dinner, she is great.
We also met the craziest less active on the planet. He said he quit the church because all of the Mormons in Utah are Democrats. Not sure where he got that information from...he also said that Sister Garcia just needs to reach a certain point of spirituality in her life, and then she can make herself hearing. She tried to explain otherwise, but he wouldn't listen so we just left.
This week Kara, Bronzie's friend who has been an investigator forever, came to our ASL Book of Mormon class. She had a lot of questions and we had a long discussion. At the end, she said she felt warm. I am really excited for her to keep progressing. She is so confused and just needs to follow that warm feeling. The spirit is simple, I love it.
Bye, love you!

February 16, 2015 - The Day It Iced

This week has been crazy! This morning we had an ice storm. It is really bizarre. Not snow, hail, or sleet. Just frozen rain. I have no clue how that works. It is actually kind of pretty. I like it.
Some Spanish members picked us and the Hermanas up to go email. I am the only one here who doesn't know Spanish. Sister Garcia said the prayer in Spanish and interpreted in ASL so I would understand. It is funny! She became the interpreter for a minute.
Valentine's Day was great. We are the cutest roommates and just did cute things for each other all day. Then we made orange chicken and orange Julius for dinner and took pictures. Sister Garcia and I were wearing the exact same outfit all day. We totally didn't plan it, I promise! We just have serious companionship unity.
The rest of this week was deaf-tastic! We finally got the address for a deaf less active (Chuck), got two new deaf investigators, and went to two deaf events. But the best news of all: a deaf less active, Bryan, who I have never even met, showed up for stake conference! It was crazy! We have been leaving him notes and texts, and he said they were exactly what he needed. And he found a Book of Mormon in his car and he knew it had been protecting him. He says he is ready to come back!
      Miracles happen y'all!
Love you!

Valentine's dinner.

Happy Valentine's Day!

The library the had the deaf event on Valentine's Day is super cool.
And would you believe me if I said we didn't plan to match?
Sister Kalahiki stayed with us! She went home on Friday :(

Our roommates made a lot of ties this week!
Going for ice cream in Little Rock.

Guys! We are even wearing the same sweater tights from Target. It is ridiculous!

February 9, 2015 - Bronzie can't pronounce Timpanogos

Hola!
Not a lot of time to write. We had to drive up to Little Rock so Sister Garcia could get her video phone. It will be very nice to have!
This week was pretty good. We met some very awesome hearing investigators who are excited. We also have been working with some part member families.
One of the deaf members, Bronzie, and her husband Armando are going to get their endowments in the Mount Timpanogos temple this week. Bronzie can't pronounce Timpanogos, so she asks me to tell people where they are going. It is cute.
We are teaching a very legit man named Brandon. He has made some bad choices in the past, but really wants to live his life for God and be a better example for his wife. He is pretty cool. He and his wife are opposite: he is a little red neck and she is very fancy. He is making a special room just for her tanning beds!
Well, that's all for Southaven. Love you!

Happy Valentines from the roomies!

February 1, 2015 - God's plan is better than ours

Hola!
Not sure what to say about this week. It was bike week, but here there are no bike lanes, no sidewalks, no emergency lane or shoulder to the road. And all the roads are very busy. So we just walked and walked and walked in the fields next to the road. And they don't even have cross walks. It is bizarre.
So, since we were biking, not a lot of deaf work happened. This week we are going to try everything to find new deaf people. Since we are ASL our area is huge, so we will be going up to Memphis for finding. Sister Garcia is very anxious to be with some deaf people.
Something I learned this week: God's plan is better than ours. Always. But we have to make a good plan so He has something to work with. That applies for everything. We have to work hard and have a direction, but don't be surprised when God changes it all up :) He makes it work, and He does performs miracles to move His work forward. We just have to trust Him.
Love y'all, have a good week and put your trust in the Lord!
